CdS cells are small light sensors. As the cell is exposed to more light, the resistance decreases. The resistance range is about 5-10KΩ, when it is dark, and goes up to 200KΩ.
To use, connect one side of the photo cell to the power supply (e.g. 5V) and the other side to the analog input pin of your microcontroller. Then connect a 10K pull-down resistor from this analog pin to ground.
